Plush without the mush! The San Marco Rolls is a nice firm saddle. Not hard but firm, and the genuine leather seat is like riding in a Rolls Royce without the hefty price. The San Marco Rolls saddle is one of the best known racing saddles in the history of saddle making. It has been in production for so long, it is considered a classic in the cycling industry, remaining unchanged. In other words, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
The San Marco Rolls is a nice, long saddle, measuring in at 278mm. So, if you move around a lot, this is the saddle for you because it allows for many different sitting styles and positions. We have found that due to the length, it’s a good idea to tilt the nose down slightly to keep the pressure off the sensitive areas.
Granted, this is not a sleek saddle like the Selle Italia SLR Flow Saddle or Fizik Antares Carbon, but if you’re logging in a lot of miles, sometimes it's just got to work.Throughout the many years we’ve used this saddle, we’ve tried to figure out why it works so well. After all, there is no cutout and it still relieves pressure from the soft parts. So far the only thing we’ve come up with is the unique contouring of the seat. So many other seats are flat across the back portion while the cross sections of the Rolls are rounded in a way that seems to flawlessly modify the pressure to the proper anatomical "sit" areas. Even the soft tissue area that is in contact with the seat it's comfortable.
