Sticky in the front and wider in the rear seems to be the motto for the 2009 Continental Grand Prix Attack and Force Tires. Using specific front and rear designs with different compounds and tire widths, Continental promises optimal cornering and extra stickiness to create a new riding experience. They even came up with a fancy acronym, “TPS” which stands for Tire Positioning System.

As these are two different tires in the set, let’s separate the specifics shall we. The Continental Grand Prix Attack front tire is 2mm narrower than the rear, measuring in at 700x22. The front tire also sports more of a grip than one might expect from a 22mm tire because of a super special extra sticky compound they use. The front tire is light, weighing in at only 190 grams with a 3ply/330tpi case and one anti-puncture breaker behind the tread.

More tread in the back = more comfort on the road. The Continental GP Force rear tire is 2mm wider than the front, measuring in at 700x24mm. This gives you maximum power transfer to the road. Plus, the puncture resistance is supreme with an extra anti-puncture breaker on the rear tire for a total of two. They increased the number of plies and TPI in the casing to 3ply/330tpi for the best puncture resistance possible. The rear tire is a bit heavier than the front, weighing in at 210 grams.

In addition to front and rear size differences, Continental is now using their special “Black Chili” compound for the Grand Prix Attack and Force tires. What is “Black Chili” you ask? “Black Chili” is not just a cool name, it is a specially designed formula made of carbon nano particles that give the tires a softer compound without sacrificing the wear rate on the tread. Black Chili is what makes the Continental Grand Prix Attack and Force tires softer, stronger and more durable.
