The large padded rear sector is cushioned and filled with gel for comfort. One would think it was a soft saddle, but it is remarkably firm. The width is a full 20mm over its smaller cousin, the Flite Gel Flow, however the shape is still dynamic despite the extra width. In fact, it’s practically sleek! Unlike many who add cushion and cumbersome in equal parts, the Max Flite is designed to match the bigger behind, not get in the way of smooth flow. The tail end is 150mm, compared with the narrower 130mm Flite Gel Flow, yet the slender nose keeps the saddle out of the way of your legs so you can pump hard without rubbing. The added cushion did add some additional weight, but it’s a fair trade when you take into account the peace that comes with a good fitting saddle.

We think the key to the popularity of the Max Flite Gel Flow sits with the engineers at Selle Italia who started with the very popular Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow design and added a wider cutout. Instead of skimping on cushion to reduce size, and consequently, comfort, Selle Italia increased the width of the seat exponentially with the cutout giving you a slightly wider rear and even more room for your soft parts. As with previous Max Flite saddles the rails are suspended providing additional dampening from road vibration. After a few test rides, we found that it really does take away a lot of the road buzz and you will be able to feel it flexing to accommodate the vibration. You will appreciate how effectively this saddle absorbs road vibrations.
