Mavic calls it the Ultimate Computer, we call it the Whole Shebang.  Mavic had the genius concept of putting the speed sensor on the front wheel skewer with a quick release lever, but their older model seemed, well, lacking.  Not anymore!  The Mavic Wintech Ultimate Computer took all the great design features of their first unit: the sleek mounting (no zip ties or cables), the great skewer sensor, etc. and combined that with a seriously effective computer system.  Finally!

There’s so much to tell about, let’s start with why they can call it the Ultimate Computer.  Not only is it a bike computer to tell you speed (in kph or mph), average speed and max speed, it also has a trend indicator to tell you if you’re above or below your average.  It gives you trip distance, total overall distance and it gives you the distance from your other bike unit or trainer.  (Wait, did we just say, “other bike”.  Yes we did.)You get a clock, stopwatch, nine intermediate clocks and a cadence feature.

Yes, there’s more.  The Mavic Wintech Ultimate Computer has a heart rate monitor giving you everything you could possibly need to know about your heart on a bike ride and it’s programmable in one-beat increments.  The Mavic HRM strap has a replaceable battery, so no more ditching the strap just because the battery died. (Sorry Polar, perhaps you should rethink this battery thing, your straps can be a pain.)  You may want to throw out your Polar strap once and for all, because the Mavic Wintech Ultimate Computer has a proprietary HRM strap, so your old Polar won’t work anyway.

Your Wintech Ultimate Computer also has an altimeter giving you your current altitude in feet or meters.  The display will show you minimum and maximum altitudes during your ride as well as a cumulative climb, climbing speed, altitude memory and the temperature.

You may be saying, “Yeah, that sounds incredible, but since its wireless what if it grabs information from another device on the road?”   Well, that’s where the Wireless Integrated Network, appropriately called WIN, comes in.  And it does WIN our vote for reliability.  They’ve switched the signal to a stronger 2.4 Ghz frequency and they’ve integrated an inner voice to the CPU so YOUR computer is always checking to make sure that its talking to YOUR system.  In layman’s terms that means there won’t be any confusion if one of your friends is riding next to you with his own Mavic Wintech Ultimate Computer, or a PowerTap, or the cadence sensor which also rides on the same 2.4 Ghz frequency.

And speaking of signal, once you’ve properly programmed your Wintech Ultimate Computer, it can automatically detect two different wheel sensors and a trainer mount.  So you can easily switch between bikes without having to reprogram.

The Ultimate Computer batteries should last for 18-24 months of regular use and they use the same standard watch battery (CR2032) in all three components (the computer, the heart rate transmitter and the sensor).  The display is large with easy navigation.  It mounts cleanly on the bar (26 or 31.8) with a sleek new double axis bracket mounting system that allows you to rotate the screen to your desired angle for clear viewing.  No cables, no fusing and a multi directional screen makes it “easy on the eyes” in more ways than one.
