Elite, this Italian gem produces some of the finest trainers in the world.  Take the Elite SuperCrono Wireless Fluid Trainer for example.  The first comment made when we took it out of the box was, “Where are the wires?  Oh man!  They forgot the wires!”  But alas, there are no wires.  Perhaps we should have read the box first.  Turns out, the transmission of information is a coded system where the transmitter is placed inside the resistance unit with the receiver inside a console that you fit to your handlebars.

As we examined this unit we discovered another handsome feature of the SuperCrono Wireless is a self regulating compass that transmits the force on the resistance unit in relation to the weight and position of the rider.  This is much different than other trainer frames on the market which typically regulate themselves mechanically.  In layman’s terms, this means that the Elite SuperCrono will give you a more realistic riding experience.  Even in your living room.

The resistance roller is made of ElastoGel.  We know, it sounds like a tool used by a super hero, but it really is great stuff.  On the Elite SuperCrono’s Wireless, the ElastoGel rollers are now 50% larger (45mm, 15mm more than the usual 30mm ones) to give you better distribution of tire pressure and better tire adherence, making them more tire friendly plus the larger roller gives you lower RPM’s for less overall vibration and a lot less noise.

But the overall coolest thing about this trainer is that is uses fluid resistance, which compared to magnetic resistance, is again, more realistic.  Plus, all the moving parts are submerged in the fluid, aka: oil, this makes the unit is SO much quieter than any magnetic trainer on the market.

New for 2010 the Elite SuperCrono frame has four contact points, up from last year’s three points.  Unlike many other units, Elite has chosen to use solid base construction to reduce flex.  This new legless design, combined with its reduced flex, ensures the Elite Crono Wireless stays put, even during out of the saddle sprinting.

Now, back to why it is wireless.  The Elite SuperCrono’s Wireless Fluid Trainer has a computer to monitor your performance so you can see actual results from your efforts.  There are 15 functions overall that include your power readouts: actual, average and max.  Plus your speed readout: actual, average and max.  You also get race distance, total distance of all races, actual and average slope, elevation gain, race time, total overall race times, and indicator of actual speed compared to average speed and off course, battery level.

Assembly is simple, goes together in minutes.  You also get a front wheel block and spare Q/R for those using Mavic or similar non-compatible Q/R skewers.  And, last, but certainly not least, if you happen to have two trainers in the same area, you can personalize the coding on each one to keep them from interfering with each other.
