For all of the amazing benefits carbon fiber brings to the cycling industry, the one area where carbon hasn't been saturated has been stems. Not that there aren't a ton of carbon fiber stems in the marketplace, but rather it's that carbon doesn't have the reputation for making stems lighter, stiffer, stronger, or better in any measurable way. The advantage seems to be purely visual -- a carbon stem will match all the other carbon bits on your bike, that's about it.

ITM knows this so they designed their new stems (the ITM Pathom and the Draco) with an alloy body. They are CNC machined (that means that the computer was in charge of the manufacturing so it will be perfect) and then wrapped with carbon. Of course they add a full carbon face plate as well.

The aluminum gives the ITM Draco stem strength and stiffness and there’s no doubt the carbon looks great and is as light as air, but carbon is also an incredible absorber of road vibration which really helps cut down on rider fatigue. The carbon is also torshonailly rigid so there’s no worry of a twisted bar just because your pumping hard.

This ITM Draco stem is just like the ITM Pathom, except the graphics are cooler. A matter of opinion, perhaps, but we think they look cooler.
