The ITM Pathom Carbon Wheels are the premium wheels for 2010 in the ITM lineup. Clearly they’re aero, with 50mm deep rims, they’re light at only 1498grams for the set and they’re fast, fast, fast!

Fast is great, but our critical nature has us thinking… why wouldn’t you just pick up a pair of the Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR wheels? The Mavic’s have a tried and true design, they’ve been built for years and have a track record of performance that could fill an encyclopedia.

Fair enough, but, when you look closer at the ITM Pathom design you start to see why they get our attention and why we prefer them over the Cosmic Carbone.

Let’s talk simplicity. The ITM Pathom Carbon Wheels are built with a hub/spoke combo that is easily repaired with standard stainless steel aero spokes and off the shelf bearings. This, in our minds, racks up huge points to the ‘usability’ of these wheels. Race them or ride them every day. Take them on your next adventure and forget about having to pack proprietary spokes before you ride.

Second to the simplicity is the tubular tire format. It’s hands down the best tire. Folks not familiar with them are turned off by the gluing and set up of tubulars. It’s true, the first time is the hardest, but once you ride them you’ll wonder how you ever got hooked on clinchers.

As for the ride, it is smooth, supple and balls to the walls. We recommend taking a quick 20 minute ride on your old wheels before you put on the ITM Pathom wheels. Then put these puppies on. You’ll experience instant improvement in straight line speed, spin up and ride quality. Steering is precise, and cornering superior. Yes, a cross wind is more noticeable due to the 50mm rim but the thinner spokes help stop it from overpowering you.

The build is a single piece carbon fiber rim. No alu. No extras. Just deep dish 50mm carbon rims, 18 radial front spokes and 24 crossed rear. Strong, simple and light.

We recommend a pair of the SwissStop Yellow in the RacePro (Campy) or the FlashPro (Shimano) for the best braking performance. For the ultimate setup, slap on a Veloflex Tubular or for more durability a pair of the Conti GP 4000 SR tubulars.
