There’s just something about challenging gravity that makes climbing hills satisfying to those of us who get an attitude with altitude. Your chest burns and your legs burn. When you feel the pure exhaustion and reprieve upon reaching the summit, wouldn’t it be nice to know the numbers associated with the numbness?

Framed with a stylish black casing and a large, well defined display, the Sigma BC 2209 MHR is a friend to the hill climbers of the world. Sure, it has all the basics that a cycling computer should have, speed, time, totals, and all that jazz, but in addition to the functional fundamentals, the Sigma BC 2209 is a wireless computer that also comes with ECG- exact heart rate functions, an altimeter, a thermometer (because it gets cold in them there hills) and cadence.

The Germans know their cars, and evidently their cycling computers as Sigma seems to have found a way to allow the rider to grab a quick glance at the display and learn their current altitude, speed and heart rate data. A touch of a button and you’ll see your current and average cadence. With another touch of the button, here comes all your velocity information like actual speed, average speed and

The data can be recorded wirelessly with a max range of 90 cm or via an optional cable. Plus, as an added bonus, the range of the cadence transmitter has been increased to 110 cm and the heart rate transmitter has been increased to 100 cm.

Like many of the newest, latest, greatest in cyclocomputers, Sigma has developed computer software so you can download the collected data on to your PC with the optional docking station. And speaking of options, the Sigma BC 2209 MHR comes with an additional handy, or rather wristy, feature that allows the computer unit to be worn like a wrist watch so you can the all the same information off the bike on nice mountain hikes or other activities.

The BC 2209 MHR is powered with the new CR 2450, 3 V battery which is included in delivery. Those of you who don’t get the battery significance, let us educate you, the CR 2450 battery should last you three times longer than the standard 2032 battery. And to save even more power, the BC 2209 MHR features a standby mode so that no power is unnecessarily wasted on altitude calculations when not in motion. This also provides an automatic start/stop function so the bike computer activates itself automatically when motion is detected.
