Ah yes, the Mavic Ksyrium Elite. High end Ksyrium technology without the price tag. Sure, you’ll notice a difference in the weight, due to the stainless steel spokes and the aluminum front hub. Sure, the Elite’s lose some of the firmness, thanks to the stainless spoke. Luckily though, the additional weight can be found in the spokes not in the rim, so the spin up is almost on par with the Ksyrium SL’s.
You can also expect comparable durability of the Ksyrium Elite due to the Maxtal rim which is virtually identical to the rim on the Ksyrium SL. Where it differs is in the machined sections in between the spoke nipples.
Seriously, for the price, you can’t beat the Ksyrium Elite. With virtually all of the aerodynamic benefit of the SL and no loss in durability, the Elite’s are a slightly heavier version of the SL’s.
The Ksyrium Elite has a 22mm front rim and a 25 mm rear rim. The new rear hub design features the same Isopulse lacing and optimized spoke dish of the Ksyrium SL and new alloy axle to increase stiffness. According to Mavic, this ratio gives the Ksyrium SL’s their superior power transfer.
You benefit from so many of Mavic’s technological advancements that they put into the Ksyrium SL. Like the UB Control and SUP treatments, to give you a perfectly machined braking surface and welded/machined rims that ensure consistent and reliable performance, mile after mile. They also come with Mavic's QRM+ bearings that are double-sealed so they will last and last. Plus they allow for micro-adjustments so you can be sure of precise bearing pressure.
The Elite is available in clincher only (1690g). They have 18 spokes on the front, 20 spokes on the rear. The front spokes are radial, the rear spokes are 2-cross. You can get them for both Shimano 9/10-speed drivetrains, as well as Campagnolo 9/10/11. They come standard with Mavic’s signature aluminum quick release skewers.
