Last year Selle Italia brought back their Turbomatic and created a version of it previously not available; the gel flow. In its half-white, half-black cutout version it was both loved and hated.

Folks willing to look past the two tone leather loved the addition of the cutout. While others, still bitter over its cancellation, could not believe they would not make an all black version. The amount of flack Selle Italia received must have been massive. We were copied in on some very passionate emails to Selle Italia. Our impression, Selle Italia should never have messed with the Turbomatic.

So for 2011, we have the saddle you wanted to love, in all black. The Selle Italia Turbomatic Gel Flow. What's changed?

For starters it's all black. No two tone saddle. Secondly, they dropped the oval carbon rails in favor of the more widely compatible round manganese. This adds 40 grams to the weight of the saddle but makes it usable on every seatpost made for the last 30 years.

Akin to their first attempt at re-launching the Turbomatic, the gel flow has a cutout as well as gel inserts in the sit bone area to ensure a cushy ride, as well as flex in the nose for additional comfort. There's still the Elastomer shock absorption to cut down on the road vibe. In every way it's the Turbomatic Gel Flow Team saddle with a nice color and compatible rails. So yes, those emails were worth it!
