Aerodynamics legend John Cobb teamed up with Rudy Project to build the best aerodynamic helmet on the market. In their wind tunnel testing, Cobb and Rudy built the Wingspan, a time trial helmet that scientifically beats the 3 leading competitors. This helmet offers better air flow on and around your head, leading to lower drag and faster times. It is a marvel of modern science and it doesn’t stop there.
Factoring in riders needs, the Rudy Project Wingspan can be configured in multiple ways for multi disciplines. On the front, wingspan can be configured with a mesh vent to increase airflow and reduce heat. This configuration is best for triathlons. The second configuration has a solid insert in place of the mesh, less drag. This configuration is ideal with straight-on time trials.
As you move to the back you see big rear vents that ‘suck’ the heat off your head. The underside of the rear tail has an insert that closes up the empty space typically found in a TT helmet. This little change adds almost no weight, but in wind tunnel testing was shown to dramatically improve air flow by reducing turbulence. Ear covers further reduce bad air flow around your ears.
The Rudy Project Wingspan comes in one size for heads 54-59cm and uses a RSR disc retention system that allows for one handed dial ins. Weight: 349 grams.
