When we first saw the Fizik Kurve Chameleon it was amazing and innovative but something was oddly familiar about the design. Light bulb moment after we flipped it over. It all went back to 1882.

A quick history lesson. Selle Royal was founded in Italy in 1956 but it’s always been overshadowed by Selle Italia and San Marco in the road scene. So in 1996 Selle Royal launched Fizik with the goal of better competing with its two other Italian counter parts. Then in 2002 Selle Royal acquired Brooks’s saddles. Now an Italian company owned an English company.

Now you’ve got to be asking yourself, what does this have to do with Fizik’s new Kurve Chameleon? Everything! Brooks own patents to its designs going back to 1882, which are world famous but sadly not popular in road racing. Our sources at Fizik have suggested the new Kurve line has been in development for many years which has us believing the new Fizik Kurve Chameleon is the intended product of the Brooks purchase.

The new Fizik Kurve Chameleon design is intended to give like a leather saddle and follow the contour of your body. Just like a Brook’s saddle suspends leather the Fizik Kurve Chameleon design suspends a flexible carbon composite base that is cushioned by a thin layer of foam. It gives more under the sit bones and soft tissue. While the composite shell has a slightly rounded shape it flattens with weight. However unlike a Brooks it does not have the typical break in difficulties.

While flex appears to be isolated to the shell it’s not. A unique cold‐forged 2014‐T6 aluminum mobius rail design with looping ends offers additional suspension. Giving both the shell and rails considerable ability to flow with your movements and give in ways a traditional saddle cannot. To adjust the amount of flex the Tuner can be configured to soft or hard.

The Fizik Kurve Chameleon is most like their Antares design with an updated design and technology going back to 1882. Truly what’s old is new again.
