Limar Pro 104 Ultralight Helmet Review
The Limar Pro 104 Ultralight Helmet is the lightest road cycling helmet in both the European sizes and the American sizes. This may seem to be a little confusing at first, but the Pro 104 helmet had to add more material at the front and the back to meet American Crash Safety ratings. The European version weighs 190 grams, but as stated earlier, it does not meet the CPSC Safety Requirements. The American version only weighs 25 grams more (215 grams) in the medium size, but meets all the crash testing requirements to be sold in America. The
Pro 104 American version is still lighter than the Giro Aeon Helmet with CPSC approval.
A combination of things helps make the Pro 104 helmet ultralight (as the name suggests). It has a whopping 22 vents and a monoshell in-mold construction. The 22 vents are large and take away material, therefore taking away weight as well. The vents also provide great ventialation, as they allow cool air to flow in and hot air to flow out. You also won’t have to worry about bugs getting in your helmet, since the Pro 104 comes complete with a net built into the front vents on the helmet.
The Pro 104 also includes a wheel adjustment piece on the back of the helmet. It adjusts both sides at the same time, keeping the helmet center on your head. The chinstrap is easy to clip in and out of and has a slide adjustment to fit around both your ears and under your chin. The Pro 104 also comes complete with a pad the wraps around the chin strap, so you don’t have to worry about the strap rubbing on and irritating the bottom of your chin.
The Pro 104 also comes with extra padding to put inside the helmet just in case the existing padding isn’t enough. You can also reposition the padding inside the Pro 104 to provide a completely customized fit. Not everyone’s head is shaped the same and Limar recognizes this by allowing you to add more padding where you need it and take it away from the places you don’t. This padding is removable and washable, so you’re helmet doesn’t have to stick after a long, hot ride. It comes with a 2-year warranty and a 3-year crash replacement program.
It comes in sizes medium or large and the colors are carbon, read, blue, white, pink, silver, green and titanium. The medium runs 54-56cm and the large runs 56-61cm. The Pro 104 makes you feel like you aren’t even riding with a helmet on, but in all reality you’re wearing the helmet with the best weight to safety ration currently being produced and sold. The helmet is slightly lighter than a pair of pedals and after a few minutes or riding, you hardly notice it’s there. Not to worry, this helmet does not fail when you crash and has a superior protection over other helmets. This is especially true for the American version.
While
Limar Helmets are made in China they are designed in Italy, with a truly ‘Euro’ feel and design.
